How I Deal With Crippling Boredom

There are certain things you do when boredom overwhelms your spirit, you have already worked out and you’ve tried unsuccessfully to get some shots up because the gym was locked. (Quick aside. Even though I haven’t even started yet. Whatever, I wanted to tell this story and had no where else to fit it in. Sue me.  Also, I don’t know why I use parentheses in situations like this, but it just feels right.  Anyway, it was a Sunday before a Tuesday game and all I wanted to do was get some practice shots up.  I spoke with the manager the practice before, and he assured me that I would have a key waiting for me so I could actually access the gym, because the previous two times I tried to go it was locked.  So I show up, and as I am looking for the key I notice a little girl and woman probably around my age standing at the front door trying to get in.  Sensing something was up that could potentially disrupt my precious alone time in the gym, I found the key and snuck in through the side door.  Thinking I was so slick, I proceeded to start my workout. musings on dishsoap

I just noticed that my dish soap says it is has the scent of “Green Tea and Melissa.” Come again? Melissa?? What the hell is Melissa? So I had to consult Wikipedia. Apparently it is some sort of lemony minty plant.  Boring.  It would be way cooler if the soap was supposed to smell like another Melissa, the woman from Greek mythology who “raised the infant Zeus in Crete, nursing him with goat’s milk and honey.”  The label could have a burly lady in viking hat cradling baby Zeus in one arm and squeezing a goats udder with the other. Maybe I should take this issue up with Hepi, the maker of my soap.  Continue reading “musings on dishsoap”

Tournament and Other Thoughts

Couple musings to start:

It’s crazy how nobody drives on Yom Kippur. The streets are flooded with kids riding bikes. I have been told that if I were to drive my car people would throw rocks at me. That’s some overly religious bs if you ask me.

Most of the people here think I am straight up crazy for wanting to come here just to play basketball. It seems like it is something they just cannot comprehend. One of my teammates went crazy on me when he found out I went to Harvard, shouting “What the FUCK are you doing here!?!” in this thick accent. It was hilarious. Griping and Rambling

Still hurt, which sucks.  Yesterday the assistant trainer told me that he thought I might be out for longer than he originally thought.  He compared my injury to Troy Polamalu’s, and he’s supposed to be out 3-6 weeks.

It’s interesting how the pro football player got X-Rays and MRI’s, and he has a nice, semi-defined return date.  I on the other hand got a glance and a simple “don’t worry, this happens to soccer players all the time. 10 days to 6 weeks.”  Uhh, thanks?

So I go to the trainer today. And by go to the trainer I mean drive 10 miles, realize I don’t have coins for parking, get there too early, sit in my car sweating because I don’t want to turn the air on because I am so low on gas, ask a passing meter checker lady if she can make change and get denied, and finally heading inside after I borrow money from the trainer.
